Day 1 Quito

Flight to Ecuador. Arrival in Quito in the evening. Airport pick up and transfer to hostel. Welcome dinner at night

Day 2 Quito/Mindo

After an early breakfast we depart from Quito and head northwest towards Mindo. Once in Mindo, we will take a cable car that stretches for 500m through the forest. After soaring above the treetops we start to hike through the cloud forest in which we will come across several waterfalls. In the afternoon we will do canopy (zipline) through the beautiful forestal surroundings. At the end of the day we head back to Quito.

Day 3 Quito/Otavalo

Today we will go to Otavalo. Here we will see The Solar Clock and after that we will continue to El Parque Condor (a bird rescue center), where it is possbile to see the famous Condor Bird (the biggest in the world). We will see many eagles and an eagle performance too. Afterwards we go to Plaza Los Ponchos, which is one of the most famous indegenous markets in South America. Afterwards we will go to Peguche Waterfall, which is considered as a sacred waterfall for the indegenous people. We will spend the night in Otavalo.

Day 4 Otavalo

After breakfast we will go to Cotacachi Cayapas Reserve, where we will visit a beautiful lagoon. Afterwards we will visit the small town of Cotacachi, where it’s possible to find many leather goods.

Day 5 Otavalo/El Reventador

After breakfast we will drive to El Reventador where the biggest waterfall in Ecuador is located. On the way there we will make a stop in Papallacta, where it’s possible to bathe in hotsprings. After lunch in Papallacta we will continue until we reach El Reventador, where the entrance to Cayambe Coca National Park is located, We will spend the night here.

Day 6 El Reventador/Cayambe Coca National Park/Lago Agrio

We will go to Cayambe Coca National Park early in the morning. From here we will walk for aproximately 45 minutes in order to get to a beautiful viewpoint where it’s possible to appreciate the wonderful San Rafael Waterfall. Then we will return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we will drive to Lago Agrio in the northeastern part of Ecuador.

Day 7 Lago Agrio/Cuyabeno National Park

After breakfast we will meet up with a naturalist guide who will lead us into the deep jungle by canoes. In the afternoon we will visit The Laguna Grande to swim and enjoy the sunset.

Day 8 Cuyabeno National Park

In the morning, after breakfast at the lodge, we will canoe upstream to explore the unique ecosystem of Laguna Grande. While navigating in the Igapo (flooded forest), we will see ancient majestic mimosa trees, which create the ideal habitat for epiphyte plants, such as bromeliads, orchids, ferns and cacti.

We will continue the adventure to “Terra Firme”, where we will hike for the rest of the morning. You will get an introduction to the rainforest ecology and see an amazing variety of birds such as woodpeckers, tanagers, macaws and toucans. You will have the opportunity to see a couple of monkey species as well.

Day 9 Cuyabeno National Park

After breakfast we will canoe up the Cuyabeno river until we reach the local community where we will experience daily community life and activities like harvesting and cooking. You will have the opportunity to buy handmade crafts that are carefully produced by the locals. We finish our visit encountering the shaman at his house where he will share his knowledge about the rainforest and the processes he use to heal his people.

Day 10 Cuyabeno National Park/Lago Agrio

Early morning bird watching. Return for breakfast before canoeing back to El Puente. From here we will take a bus to Lago Agrio.

Day 11 Lago Agrio/Tena

Travel day from Lago Agrio to Tena.

Day 12 Tena/Baños

Early in the morning we will meet our rafting guides and head to Jatunyacu River from where we will do river rafting. A very fun and thrilling experience. We will have lunch on the river. The end of the rafting will be in Puerto Napo. From here we will take a bus to Baños – the most adventurous city in the highland.

Day 13 Baños

We will visit the famous waterfall route, which goes through 2 protected areas following the Pastaza river. Along the way we will cross the river by cable cars to see “El manto de la Novia” an impressive waterfall which starts at the foothills of Sangay National Park. Afterwards we will continue to “El Pailon del Diablo” where it will be possible to admire the power of the falls from different spots. Be prepared to get wet!. Afterwards we will drive to Puyo where “Mirador Indichuris” is located. From here you will have a stunning view of Paztaza RIver and the rainforest. At the end of the day we will return to Baños.

Day 14 Baños

Today we will do Canyoning in the Rio Blanco. You will be rapelling down different waterfalls and sliding down natural waterslides formed by the rocks.(In the afternoon it will possible to do Paragliding as an optional activity) In the night we will have a party driving around town in a “Chiva” (Party Bus).

Day 15 Baños

Free day to hang around and enjoy the countless adventure activities Baños has to offer.

Day 16 Baños/Quilotoa

We are heading to Quilotoa – a water-filled volcano crater, where we will hike until the base and do kayaking in the lagoon. We spend the night in Quilotoa.

Day 17 Quilotoa/Chugchilan

Today we will start our trek towards Chugchilan Village. This is the most popular trek in the highland of Ecuador. It’s rather easy and doesnt require a big effort. We hike through a big canyon passing many beautiful fields and other small villages where indigenous people reside. In the end we will reach the town of Chugchilan, which is a perfect place to rest.

Day 18 Chugchilan/Isinlivi/El Chaupi

From Chugchilan we continue our journey towards Isinlivi passing many beautiful indegenous villages. When we reach Isinlivi we will take a bus to El Chaupi, which is located at the base of Cotopaxi and the Iliniza Protected Areas. We spend the night here.

Day 19 El Chaupi/Cotopaxi National Park/Quito

Today we will visit the highest active snow-capped volcano in the world. Along the visit it’s possible to see other volcanoes such as Sincholagua, Ruminahui and Antisana. Our transportation will take us to the altitude of 4600m after which we will hike for about one hour to the mountain refuge at 4850m. if you have the energy, our guide will lead you to the closest glacier at 5000m. Afterwards we will return to the parking lot at 4600m from where we will descend by bikes until the base of the volcano, where a beautiful lake called Limpiopungo is located. Afterwards we will take a bus to Quito.

Day 20 Quito

City Tour: Early in the morning, the tour will depart towards downtown Quito, or Centro Histórico, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. We will start with a panoramic view of Alameda Park and the Basilica, followed by a walk down the street of the Seven Crosses. The trip will continue with a walking tour, starting at Independence Square. From here, we will visit the presidential palace, the main cathedral, the gold-plated La Compañía Church, San Francisco Church and San Francisco Plaza. From here we will take a bus to El Teleferico, where we will go by cable cars to Cruz Loma at 4000 meters. From here you will have a beautiful view of the city. In the afternoon we will visit  “La Mitad del Mundo” (Middle of the World) in Spanish. then we will visit the Intiñan Museum where you can experience the wonders of being present at latitude 0°0’0″.
