Trek Chimborazo

On this 6-day trek towards the majestic Chimborazo Volcano, you will experience true Andes-culture as you trek through beautiful and peacefully blissful villages with views of mist-cloaked mountain tops and lush valleys with llamas and alpacas. Escape your everyday with a simple lifestyle in harmony with “Pachamama” (Mother Earth), who really come to life in the Ecuadorian Andes. Finally you will stand at the base of the world’s highest point – breathtaking Mount Chimborazo. Day 1 Isinlivi/Chugchilan
We will start our trek in the village of Isinlivi, which is located at 3200 m. We hike through a big canyon passing many beautiful fields and other small villages where the indigenous people reside. In the end we will reach the town of Chugchilan, which is a perfect place to rest.

Day 2 Chugchilan/Quilotoa
This day we will continue to descent until we reach the bottom of the canyon, after which we start the ascention towards Quilotoa volcano crater. A beautiful volcano crater filled with turquis water.

Day 3 Quilotoa/Urbina
Today we will hike around the big crater and enjoy the beautiful views. Along the way we will reach the top of the volcano crater which is 3.914 meters above sea level. From here you will have stunning views of the sorroundings such as Ilinizas and Cotopaxi. Afterwards we will be transported to Urbina located in the base of Chimborazo Volcano.

Day 4 Urbina/Mechahuasca
We will start the day hiking from Urbina crossing some big fields and then continue the journey passing through 2 mountains (Chimborazo and Carihuairazo) until we reach the indigenous highland community of Mechahuasca, where we will rest.

Day 5 Mechahuasca/Chimborazo Refuge
From Mechahuasca we will hike towards the Chimborazo Refuge. Along the way we will walk through beautiful lava-slopes and deserted areas. Finally we will reach the Hermanos Carrel Refuge located at 4.800 meters on Mount Chimborazo.

Day 6 Chimborazo Refuge/Agujas De Whymper
The last day we will walk towards the “Whymper Refuge” of Chimborazo which is located at 5.000 meters. From here we will hike until “Las Agujas De Whymper”, which is a rock-pick located at 5.200 meters. From here you will have a beautiful view of the highland. Finally we will descent back to the Hermanos Carrel Refuge where you will be transported to the next destination on your journey.
