Day 1: San Cristóbal

You will be picked-up at the airport by our staff and transferred to the port where you will have lunch and an introductory briefing about the port, with an orientation tour. We will show you the main shops, the beaches, and where to do laundry, etc. At the end of the afternoon you will be transferred in the highlands at a local hacienda that also received volunteers to support local projects.

Day 2-6: San Cristóbal (Highlands, Volunteering)

These days you will be working at the Hacienda, depending on their ongoing projects it can be: ecotherapy, reforestation, help with different social projects at the community of “La Soledad” (small village in the highlands). All this will be detailed once we have the dates you come, we will detail to you which activities you will take part in. All meals will be taken at the hacienda, and the accommodation is in dorms (gender separated).

Day 7: Highland Tour and back to San Cristóbal Downtown

Today you will visit the highlands of San Cristóbal: the tortoise breeding center, the Junco Lagoon and the Puerto Chino beach. The Junco is a lagoon that is in an extinct crater of lava formation. This is the source of fresh water of the islands. You can often spot frigate birds there. Then you will visit the tortoise breeding center where you will see how the National Park breeds tortoises’ endemics from San Cristóbal and then release them in the wild when they are big enough. Last stop will be the Puerto Chino beach, which is a nice white sandy beach where you can spot sea lions and enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water. In the end of the afternoon you will be back in the port. Evening free, overnight in hotel.

Day 8: San Cristóbal “360-tour”

“360 tour” (including Kicker Rock): You will visit the famous Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido – sleeping Lion), a volcanic formation amid the ocean. There you will be able to snorkel with sharks, rays, turtles and if you are luck also with hammerhead sharks! But the tour also includes a stop at the beautiful Bahia Rosa Blanca beach, and passing bay Punta Pitt (though not disembarking there) to see the red footed boobies). You will be back in late afternoon.

Day 9: Isabela Island

After breakfast we pick you up and transfer you to the airport where you will take a 45mn flight to Isabela island. Welcome by our staff and transfer to the hotel. Welcome briefing and at 11AM departure for a boat tour to Cabo Rosa tunnels. This is an amazing snorkeling tour where you can spot reef sharks, rays, turtles, seahorses and lot of tropical fishes. You will be back in the late afternoon, evening free.

Day 10: Isabela Island – Volcano Trekking

Sierra Negra Volcano: You walk through spectacular lava landscapes and have views of the northern volcanoes of Isabela and Fernandina. The hike to the Sierra Negra Volcano and Volcano Chico is 16 km long (duration approx. 6 hours), but worth every effort. You see the second largest volcanic crater in the world and explore different vegetation zones. You get a lunch box for the hike.

Day 11: Isabela Island – Free Day

Today you will enjoy a free day on Isabela. You have may options to spend it: either rent a bike and explore the wetlands, or go to the flamingo lagoon, the tortoise breeding center.. You can also take a surf lesson, do a kayaking or stand up paddle trip.. our staff will be helping you if you want to book an extra activity. You can as well just enjoy the front beach and have a cocktail in one of the bars at the beach.

Day 12-14: Isabela – Santa Cruz

At 5:30 am we will pick you up at your hotel and accompany you to the pier, where you will take a shared speed boat at 6:00 am to Santa Cruz (approx. 2-hour ride). At the harbour our staff will welcomes you and accompany you for breakfast. After check-in you will be given a welcome briefing. This day and the next ones will be free. You can visit for example: the Charles Darwin station, the Tortuga Bay beach, las Grietas. You can also for book a boat tour to either Seymour or Bartolomé (our staff can help you with that).

Day 15: Santa Cruz – Baltra Airport

If there is enough free time until your transfer to the airport we suggest that you visit the Charles Darwin Station (entrance free). Your driver will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Itabaca Channel, which you will cross on a ferry. For the last part of your trip to the airport you will take the public bus. Your driver will accompany you until the check-in point where your program ends with your return flight to the mainland. Baltra is the only 100% ecological airport in the world!

NOT INCLUDED:

  • flight from/to mainland (approx. 550$)
  • extra overweight on the flight San Cristóbal-Isabela (if you have more than 11 kilos/person) count 4USD per extra kilo. As we know many people travel with more than 11 kilos we can send for no extra cost a piece of luggage or two straight to Santa Cruz, and you only bring the necessary stuff for your days on Isabela
  • Entrance fee to the Galapagos National Park $100,-** (to be paid upon arrival at the airport – CASH ONLY – There is no ATM at the airport. Please bring enough cash)
  • INGALA Migration card $20** to be paid in cash in Quito or Guayaquil airport (Consejo de Gobierno counter, easy to spot in the airport. There you will also have to register your personal details before you go to the check-in counter of your airline)
